All 17 chips. Better by morning.
We gave Eppy 17 public test chips and one night. It rearranged the big building blocks on each chip into a better layout. Every chip improved.
The real overnight run, replayed: each line is one chip; the panels show the chips being worked on.
Every chip’s progress, side by side
Each tile is one chip’s real run: how much better its layout got, minute by minute. Most of the gain comes fast: 98% of each chip’s total improvement arrived in the first 20 minutes.
Real recorded runs; playback speeds up after minute 20.
One chip, in real time
A separate, short run on chip IBM02, shown at true speed: 10 seconds of search, no speed-up. Watch the red crowded spots cool as Eppy moves the blocks: 37.5% lower layout cost.
Every frame is a saved snapshot of the run; red glow marks crowded regions.
What “better” means
A chip layout decides where the big blocks go. A better layout needs less wiring and has fewer crowded, congested spots. The benchmark scores this as one number, the layout cost, where lower is better. Eppy moves the blocks; it never adds or removes parts.
17 public test chips, scored with the benchmark’s own evaluator. All layouts are legal with zero overlaps. Improvement is measured against each chip’s saved legal starting layout. This is a public research benchmark, not a measurement of manufactured chips.
